Streaming

Ever wondered how Sky Stream delivers all your favourite shows and live sports without a satellite dish? Think of it as a modern way to watch Sky TV, except it’s over the internet instead of through traditional satellite gear.

Sky Stream is simple, flexible and designed for the way we watch TV today. Read on for a brief look at how Sky Stream can work for you.

Plug in and play

Sky Stream is powered by a small streaming device (often called a “puck”), that you plug into your TV’s HDMI port. Once it’s connected to power and linked to your home Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable, you’re ready to start watching.

There are no big dishes on the roof and no engineer visits. The device uses your broadband connection to stream all the content you’re subscribed to, whether that’s live TV, movies or apps like Netflix and Disney+.

Because it runs entirely over your internet connection, the quality of your streaming depends on how fast your broadband is. Sky recommends at least around 25Mbps for reliable playback, especially if you’re watching in 4K UHD or have advanced sound like Dolby Atmos.

All your content in one place

Once Sky Stream is set up, it becomes an open door to your Sky subscription and other services. Using the same interface, you can browse through live channels like Sky Atlantic and Sky Max, catch up on shows and explore apps for popular streaming platforms. You can even build a playlist of things you want to watch later, pulling titles from different sources into one handy list.

One of the nicest things about Sky Stream is that it can support multiple screens. With the ‘whole home’ option, you can connect up to six devices on the same subscription. Everyone in the household will then be able to watch something different at the same time.

Great for modern TV lovers

Sky Stream highlights a shift away from traditional satellite dishes and toward internet-powered streaming. Sky is now even guiding new customers toward Sky Stream rather than its older satellite services.

This shift brings extra flexibility for viewers. Fancy upgrading to Dolby Atmos for richer sound? No problem. Want to bolt on sports, movies or kids’ channels? You can tailor your package around what you actually watch. And if you’re moving over from Sky Q, the setup and remote will feel comfortably familiar. Just faster, smoother and more up to date.

Can you use Sky Stream abroad?

Sky Stream is designed for use in the UK and relies on a UK broadband connection. If you try and use it abroad, it won’t usually work in the same way due to the licensing and regional restrictions.

Users with a VPN will still be able to watch Sky Stream abroad if they set their location to the UK. At Sky Stream EU, we make that easier using a plug-and-play VPN router. Your router will be pre-configured to watch Sky Stream abroad, and comes with a Sky Stream puck that’s ready to use. Simply plug in, connect and start streaming worldwide.
